Luna the Tooooonnnnaaa

Luna, known on Instagram @lunathetoona, is a hoot. Her face is ridiculously expressive, which makes her photogenic to the extreme.

 Every picture seems to pack a little personality in it, and her mom does a great job keeping the pictures coming. 

  Luna lives in Chicago now, but she started out in Oklahoma. When Kimber first adopted her, all she knew was that Luna was about four months old and had come to Chicago via a rescue group in Oklahoma.

 Kimber assumed Luna was the by-product of an amorous farmer's dog on the loose or something similar, but after a few months she decided to do a little digging around. 

 She went on the Facebook page of the shelter in Oklahoma and the rescue group who transported Luna.

  Oh, the wonders of the world wide web!  Kimber was able to get in touch with Luna's actual rescuer and find out the real back story.

Luna's rescuer and her husband were driving late at night on a very rural road in Oklahoma when they saw something cross the road.

 They stopped to check it out, but immediate gratification was denied. 

 

They had to search for, follow, and chase Luna until they found her and her sister sitting next to a dead deer carcass near a creek. Gross! 

 They were very smelly and very scared of humans.

Given the distance they were found from anywhere residential, their rescuer believes they were dropped off there. 

 

No wonder they were scared of humans. :/

Now both Luna and her sister have been adopted into awesome homes.

 

 They got to catch up a bit when they took the same obedience class.  

 

And Luna's rescuer now follows her on Instagram and checks up on her all the time.

 I figured if Luna's fame extends from Oklahoma to Chicago, we might as well propel her to stardom here on the blog. BOL.

Abby (and Lilly)

Some of you will definitely remember Lilly.

 She was a precious little puppy when we first met her, then we saw a play-date she had with Leroy, and the pictures continue to come as she has grown a bit over the past few months.  

 

 She was a year old in September. 

When Mark and Janelle adopted Lilly, they did more than one good deed that day. 

Not only did they spare Lilly from the pound, but as Mark's parents, Charles and Peggy, watched all the joy and success Mark and Janelle had with their rescue dog, they were inspired to get one for themselves.

That's when Abby came into their lives last April. She was at the Hillside SCPA for just two weeks when they brought her home. How does such a pretty pup with a pug pedigree wind up in a shelter? Well lots of people would assume she must be naughty or aggressive or something but nope-the owner was just moving somewhere new with a no-pets policy.  Sigh. . . well their loss was clearly Charles and Peggy's gain. 

Abby loves her new home, especially sitting by the window watching for all living things outside. She takes long afternoon naps,  chases her tennis ball, and has a special signature howl.  Sounds like a dream life!  

 

She and Lilly enjoy playing together.  Mark says they seem to be having an informal contest over who can drink and spill their water the fastest. 

Not only do they wrestle, but they also like to take turns running down the steps, then back up again, immediately, as quickly as possible. BOL.  hmmmm. Mark is a professional personal trainer. Is that where they got the idea to do the stairs workouts? Don't be bringing your work home Mark!

Isn't it great to see the life Abby and Lilly have?  They've found their way into loving homes and a lifetime of happiness.

Ruby

I love mutts. LOVE THEM. Only God knows what Wiley's actual bloodline is, and as tempted as I am to get it checked, it won't make any difference in the long run. He's a mutt, a mixed breed, a hybrid. And so is today's dog, Ruby. 

She is beautiful and loving, and Kristine and her husband Aaron can't remember what their life was like before Ruby came along.

They went looking for a dog in February, and I'll bet the picture above gives you a hint about how quickly they found the one they wanted.

They started online, but then Kristine's parents suggested they try Natalie's Second Chance.  While they were there a woman dropped off "Precious,"  who was only about one month old.

 Precious was confused and scared and Kristine and Aaron wanted to take her home right away, but the shelter said they had to keep her for a week to check her health and give her shots. 

Kristine was more than ready for her when the week was up, and still the shelter said perhaps she and Aaron should consider it a fostering process, in case they changed their minds.

HA! No chance of that. They named her Ruby, and she hugged Kristine all the way home. She is now her shadow, and Kristine wouldn't have it any other way, even if she is a sock-stealer.

Thanks to Kristine and Aaron for sharing their home with a Precious gem like Ruby, and thanks to Kristine for taking the time to put the story together to share. I hope we can continue to keep tabs on Ruby as she grows!

The Great Outdoors, Day One

So, the pictures have been coming in for our Photo Share: The Great Outdoors.  As I expected, many of them are snow pictures.  So many of our pets are just little (or big) snow bunnies. Here's an example of one of the pictures:

So far we have some great submissions, but we are still expecting more. And. . . I didn't even share the cutest Riley picture yet. I'm saving it for next Wednesday! haha

What I had in mind for today is something I've been holding on to for a few weeks now. I'm going to share the rest of Lilly and Leroy's first play-date!  I wanted to include these pictures in their original post, but I had so many good pictures indoors (thanks Luke) I decided to put these aside for this feature.

In these pictures we can definitely see the balance of power shift from Leroy:

So, changing the subject a bit, it's time for the "boy is my face red" photo.  Weeks ago, Meredith shared this precious picture of her girl Nala sleeping on her dad Leroy's head. (Yes, her dad is named Leroy and the dog is named Leroy. It's a weird coincidence that I'm sharing them both on the same day.  Or is it?)

I forgot to include it with my sleeping pets photo shares. :-( How could I have forgotten this picture?  So sorry Meredith and Nala! 

Ok, get your pets to go outside. Take some awesome pictures. Get some Vitamin D.  Get those pictures to me ASAP.  Also, don't forget we always want you to share your rescue stories!

Kami

 Puppies are a lot of work. Sometimes people see the cuteness factor and have no idea what they’re getting into. When Michelle saw Kami, however, she didn’t know how much work it would be just to bring her home!

Kami was in the Kent County SPCA in Camden, Delaware when Michelle saw her picture online.  She called right away but they were closed for adoptions. The next day she drove there, timing her arrival with the minute the doors opened so she could be the first one inside. 

Michelle says it was love at first sight as they played together in the meet and greet room. What really made Michelle sure that Kami was part of her destiny was the comical moment when Kami saw some people walk by the floor-to-ceiling window in the room and ran after them, only to be stopped quite short by running directly into the window. 

Unfortunately Michelle found out that someone else had placed a hold on this puppy, and she would have to wait until 6:30 that evening to see if  Kami could be hers. Obviously the people never claimed Kami, and Michelle was eager to go bring her girl home the next day.  

She drove the hour from her house to the shelter, again, only to find out Kami was out being spayed, and wouldn’t be available until the next day!  So far Michelle had invested four hours into adopting Kami and had nothing to show for it.

The next day she had company visiting for the weekend. They were not going to deter her from getting her precious pup though! Her friend Claraann went with her on the trip, and that day she was finally able to bring Kami home! Claraann held her all the way. 

At Michelle’s house, Kami (short for Kamiflauge) was a bit intimidated at first. It didn’t take long for her to make herself at home though! 

She makes the most out of her cushy life, enjoying swimming and lounging in the pool, trips to the beach, long walks, car rides, and everything else life offers! 

Kami was worth the work and the wait, and now she is part of a loving family and a great home. Much love to Kami and Michelle from Wiley and me and all of our readers too! And thanks for finally sharing your story! ;-)  Readers-don't forget you can share yours too!
